In a few words, how would I describe this wedding day to those who weren’t there… Happy. Genuine. Laid-back. Perfect.
From the moment my assistant, Meryl, and I walked into the venue, we were greeted with open arms and smiling faces. From there, I knew that September 27, 2014 was going to be an awesome day, but really, it was so much more than that.
As I mentioned in Karla & Danny’s engagement and bridal session blog posts, I’ve known Karla for over a decade. When Karla, Danny, and I had our first BRP Wedding Photography consultation together, they had mentioned how it was important to them that I, as their friend, had a good time during their wedding as well. I’m sure many of my friends would think “well, if you’re working, how can you have a good time and enjoy the day with us?” In reality, I got to do so much more than just “relax, hang out, and enjoy the day” with them. I got to soak up so many real moments with them, that I never would have been able to do had I just been a guest at their wedding. Their officiant and the Maid of Honor made several comments at the wedding about people loving Karla and Danny and wanting to “do life with them.” On their wedding day, I was given permission to “do life with them” and immortalize those moments for them. I got to witness the sweetest bridesmaids watch Karla put her dress on with tiny tears in their eyes. At one point, I was standing in the hallway and the DJ and I looked at each other and started cracking up because we could hear all of the guys in the groom’s suite joking and laughing hysterically. I can’t even put into words how that moment made me feel to hear. I also can’t emphasize enough how awesome Karla and Danny’s friends are. They are just such happy, easy going people. The kind of folks you’d want around on such a happy day. After the ceremony and all of the group shots, the videographer and I took Karla and Danny away from the crowd to capture some intimate shots of just the two of them. We’d tell them to stand over here and just love each other and some of the most absolutely genuine and amazing moments that I got to witness came from that time with them. They were just smiling, laughing, soaking each other in, joking with each other, and just being flat out adorable. Later, once the dance floor opened during their reception, I noticed Danny’s parents sitting on the side line watching the dancers from a distance… but not for long. One of Karla’s Bridesmaids and her Matron of Honor took Danny’s parents’ hands and literally pulled them onto the dance floor, taking no mercy. THAT was an awesome moment. Did I mention that I think the newlyweds friends are the sweetest? Happiest. Wedding. Ever.
